Self-Care Through Change: Prioritizing Your Well-Being During Life Transitions

Updated: Mar 27

From time to time, all of us struggle with various portions of our lives. These struggles can range from family issues to financial difficulties; relationship problems to lack of sleep. Whatever struggles you may be encountering, they are almost always compounded when major life transitions are happening at the same time. During major transitions, it is crucial to practice self-care and ensure you’re taking care of yourself.

What Are Major Life Transitions?

Major transitions can consist of anything that leads the rest of your life to be centered around the transition. This can be because of a transition from school to the working world, changes in your family life like someone moving out or moving in, career transitions, or divorce. Any of these life changes can be daunting and create a lot of stress when you’re going through them. While this is normal, that doesn’t mean it’s healthy to endure that type of stress and the changes it can cause. This is when it is utterly important to take time for yourself and prioritize your well-being.

Self-Care Life Coach

As you navigate a major life transition, you may find you need guidance and help to process through the difficulties it presents. This is where a life coach can be an invaluable help as the coach helps you process where you are now and where you want to be as the transition comes to an end. Our life coach, Vincent Provenzano, works with you to create a personalized plan on how to tackle your transition and offers you different tools and strategies to boost your self-care.

Ways to Take Care of Yourself During Life Transitions

When you’re in the midst of a major transition and are finding yourself struggling, stressed, depressed, or simply just frazzled, there are myriad ways to keep your body and mind healthy so the transition isn’t as hard on you.

Diet

When going through a divorce or other major change in your life, you may forget the importance of your diet. However, making sure you’re eating healthy and balancing your nutrition is a very easy way to keep yourself healthy and have the necessary energy to deal with the stress of your transition. Make sure to eat a balanced diet including lean proteins, healthy fats, vegetables, and fruits, and also to keep yourself hydrated.

Exercise

Keeping your body and mind fit and healthy may seem easy, but during a major life transition, you may find that even going for a walk seems like too much work. However, exercise is a great tool to keep your body and mind healthy and cared for while going through a difficult transition. Get outside and take a brisk walk or allow yourself an hour at the gym to work up a sweat and push your muscles. You can try some yoga or take a new exercise class, but you should get yourself moving. Exercise boosts endorphins and helps you process stress, so it should never be ignored when you need to practice self-care.

Be Present

When you need help with a major life transition, you may decide to seek help from our self-care life coach. One of the tools he’ll remind you of is to be actively focused on being in the present. Future thinking or dwelling on the past can cause even more stress as you tackle an already difficult transition, so keeping yourself in the moment can help alleviate that. In order to do this, you’ll want to focus on eliminating worry and replacing it with positive thoughts. You can also benefit by practicing gratitude and being thankful for the good things or blessings in your life rather than the struggles surrounding you.
